ABOUT US

The University of Surrey Tennis Club is a Team Surrey Club,, based at Surrey Sports Park ( 15 minute walk from the centre of campus and less than a 5 minute walk from Manor Park). The Sports Park boasts great facilities, including 8 hard outdoor floodlit tennis courts used throughout the year.

The club has has a five point vision for the next 12 months:

1) To improve overall mens' BUCS performance in the league.

2) To maintain a sustainable number of active Level 1 coaches that can provide assistance to the club.

3) Gain better and more regular feedback from our members through a more branched social media network.

4) To improve charity work within the club.

5) To increase the number of regular and committed social members throughout the year.

The club also has five core objectives for the next 4 years:

1) For all BUCS teams to have moved up a league.

2) For there to be a mens' fourth team and a ladies' second team competing at a good level in BUCS.

3) To receive club recognition at Colours' Ball.

4) To reach 150 members, both social and team.

5) To have club members that regularly provide a disability session for the local community.

We are proud to have 4 teams competing in BUCS (1 ladies teams, 3 mens teams) and 2 men's development teams competing against local clubs throughout Surrey and Hampshire. This year, our ladies  team is in divsion 2A and our mens 1st, 2nd and 3rd teams are in division 1A, 3A and 4A respectively. Our BUCS teams train every Monday evening with coaching from Nick Ingham (Head Tennis Coach, Surrey Sports Park) and Katie Evans (LTA licensed coach) and are also helped by the Strength and Conditioning Team at Surrey Sports Park.

As well as external competition, the club also offers inter-club competition, with all members being given the opportunity to compete against fellow members of similar standards in box league matches throughout the year, and our annual Save the Children Summer Tournament being completed throughout the summer term. We will also be running a few timed tennis tournaments throughout the year and will be instigating a few opportunities to play touchtennis! Keep an eye out on our news page and Facebook page to avoid missing out!

Off the court, the club also has a great social life! Over the past year we have had a great mix of socials including bi-monthly socials that often end at the Students Union, ice skating, a boat party on the Thames, curry nights and much more.

Our top highlights are Colours Ball  (Annual Univeristy Sports Awards evening at Epsom Downs Racecourse) which always proves to be a great night so make sure you don't miss out and the Rackets Tour! For the last three years, the tennis club has ventured abroad for a week during easter along with 5,000 other British students to Salou for two years and Rimini last year. Last year we linked up with the Badminton and Squash clubs so keep an eye out for promotions about this in the Autumn term as this week is filled with some tennis in the sun and lots of great nights out- a perfect combination!

As you can hopefully tell, we have worked hard to ensure that the club offers something for everyone. Please look round our site for more information, and if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us

We look forward to meeting you all soon!
